Hilush.org is an initiative that works in conjunction with the Friends of Schneider Association of the Schneider Children’s Medical Center, in order to improve and enhance the day-to-day life in the children’s Oncology Department. Through impeccable planning and execution, the 100% volunteer team is dedicated to learning the ins-and-outs of the Department, with the goal of creating a new way to donate and take part in activities and projects that can help and have positive impact on those who need it most.
Hilush.org was formed in 2019 by members of the Ron Family for two main purposes. First, on a personal-family level – to commemorate Hilah Ron, the family’s beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and mom – who passed away after a difficult battle with cancer in 2016. And second, to give back to the amazing people who are part of the Oncology Department while trying to improve the lives of the children who battle the disease and their families who support them.
Together with the Oncology Department Staff and the Friends of Schneider Association, specific projects will be chosen that can enhance the Oncology Department environment, including for example: renovation of the Education Center classroom, upgrade of the Waiting Room, renovation of the Alternative Treatments Room, and more.
Together with the Head Nurse of the Oncology Department and other key staff members, specific initiatives will be chosen to improve the day-to-day life of the staff and family members, including for example: a ‘cashbox’ that allows the staff to “cut the red tape” for emergency situations like taxis, babysitters for families, etc; special home visits by the staff, extracurricular activities and events for the nursing staff, and more.
Ongoing events and activities will be carefully planned and executed to enrich the lives of the children in the Department, including for example: A multi-day Cooking Seminar that will include the printing of a Recipe Book created by the children, music courses, photography days, and more
